Hatcher Pass in Alaska: blueberry picking in the fall

Blueberry picking in Hatcher Pass is absolutely breathtaking; it’s impressive. Alaska itself is guaranteed to regularly make you stop in your tracks. There isn’t much quite like it. This isn’t a hidden location, as it’s quite busy, so get there early in the season if you want a good haul. We came what would be considered late and still ended up with half a gallon of blueberries. As long as you’re willing to move around the area to find spots that haven’t been picked yet, you are guaranteed to head home with a bucket of them!

  1. How close to the nearest glaciers in this location?
    Beautiful all around
Are a lot of newcomers heading up North?
I suppose all those mountains were heavily sculpted by massive glaciation over the last 100 millennia or so. I’ve found evidence of it here in the North Coast Range in Oregon along the Great River that geologists say couldn’t have happened. Hard to change a scientist’s mind if it goes against all they’ve accepted as truth throughout their career
I’m not even sure how I found your blog… 🙂
    Cheers!

    1. Hello! I’m glad you found my blog! We do have tons of evidence of glaciers in this area; Alaska is full of them. The nearest one from this spot is about a 4-mile hike. These mountains are the Talkeetnas, and you’ll find Mint Glacier, Bomber Glacier, and others within a couple of hours’ hike!
